Overview

Perth Branch AGM was held prior to the technical meeting. Registration to attend both the AGM and technical meeting was free to SUT members. Those who wished to attend the technical session only, then normal member and non-member fees will apply.

 

Presentations

Carnegie Corporation's CETO Wave Energy Project – Progress towards Commercialism

Dr Laurence Mann, Research and IP Manager, Carnegie Corporation Ltd

CETO wave energy is continuing to develop on a number of fronts. Carnegie has received $12.5 million in LEED funding in WA, and federal REDP program funding has been sought. In concert with partners Renewable Energy Holdings and EDDF EN, site development is taking place at Reunion Island, Vancouver Island (BC), County Galway (Republic of Ireland) and Bermuda. This presentation outlined the recent progress towards commercialisation of the technology.

 

Ocean Power Technologies

Gilbert George, Director, OPT (Australia) Pty Ltd

Ocean Power Technologies has been operating since 1994 and has developed its innovative PowerBuoy® system over the past 10 years. OPT currently has projects in the UK, Hawaii, Spain and the US. This presentation outlined the technology and some of OPT's projects being developed with its partners around the world.

 

Offshore Wind – a Project Example

This presentation gave a general introduction to offshore wind energy as a concept, highlighting the why's and the why not's as the industry developed in Western Europe and a brief translation to Australia's situation. It then highlighted the development of the Princess Amalia offshore windfarm was constructed during 2006–07 and came fully online in 2008 and consists of 60 wind turbines of the 2MW class. At the time of construction it was the windfarm located furthest from shore.
