Overview
We live in interesting
times; there has never been a time when there has been so many new
ships being built for the subsea industries. The new ships provide
not only increased performance capacity, but offer dramatic
increases in the range of tasks which ships can undertaken. There
are revolutionary new designs of ships, there are new intervention
tasks which ships can now undertake and
traditional vessel types have enhanced capability. This evening
meeting gave an overview of the number of vessels entering the
market, explored new ship designs, introduced new well intervention
capability and introduced the latest in dive support vessels (DSOs).
The meeting also covered some of the most exciting aspects of the
'new ships' which will be available to the subsea industries.

Light Well
Intervention – a New Generation of Vessel
Cecilie Drange, Aker Oilfield Services AS
The demand for subsea light
intervention is increasing and the demands are becoming ever greater,
with the growing number of completions in ultra-deep water. Conventional
rig-based intervention is costly and has limited the productivity of
subsea-based assets due to the growing cost of rig time. A new
generation of subsea intervention support vessels is, however, emerging
that covers this market need for fast, cost-effective and flexible
operations. This presentation discussed the need for this type of vessel
and its benefits, and presented Aker Oilfield Services' programme of
vessel introduction to cover this area of the market.
